Pick a Corner to Shine
Choose a corner of the board to focus on and make it your goal to fill it with the highest-numbered tiles. Most people start with the bottom right corner, but feel free to choose whichever corner you like! Remember, two directions will always keep your numbers in that corner, while the other two directions might be riskier.
Build a Number Chain
Once you’ve chosen a corner, pick a row or column to chain numbers into. Try to keep your largest numbers in this row, from smallest to largest, so it’s easier to merge tiles together. Keep this row full of numbers (even small ones) to ensure you can move safely in three directions. As you get closer to 512, you might need to chain into the next row.
Stay Organized and Focused
Keep your larger numbers neat and organized. Avoid combining them all over the board without thinking, or you might end up with a bunch of large-numbered tiles that can’t merge together. Focus on keeping your large numbers in the chain, and keep the board full of smaller numbers instead.
Plan Ahead and Think Strategically
Look ahead a few moves to plan your next steps. Make sure a row or column with your largest number is always full or close to full of numbers. When new numbers appear, think about where you need to combine them to keep your chain going. By taking a minute to plan ahead, you’ll last longer in the game and have more fun!
